Read: Visual guidelines on acceptance criteria for frosted and deteriorated beet

24 Jan 2011

The frost part of most sugar beet roots is now starting to deteriorate due to the mild conditions following the severe frosts this winter. Any deteriorated parts of roots must be removed prior to delivery for processing.

British Sugar have produced a crowning guide for frost damaged sugar beet to assist growers in making their own initial assessment of any beet remaining on farm and some guidance on what they should do in order to have a load accepted in to the factory.

Visual acceptance guide

Where a grower has requested a visit by a British Sugar representative then they will review all the beet left on the farm to determine if it can be processed. If you would like to arrange a visit then please ring your Area Manager or phone the British Sugar Agricultural Helpline on 0870 240 2314 to arrange a visit. Having made the assessment the Area Manager will advise the grower if the load can be accepted for processing.
