Announcement at Cereals 2011 (June 2011) - From the 2011/12 campaign onwards, manual crowning of beet in the tarehouse will stop and a fixed crown tare adjustment of 6.77% will be applied to all deliveries. Any material delivered over the 6.77% level will be paid at the full beet price.
The 2010 IPA agreement included a commitment that British Sugar and the NFU would work together to devise a simplified approach which would do away with the present crown tare sampling system.
A trial programme was run in the 2010/11 campaign designed to arrive at a fixed crown tare adjustment that would be applied to future deliveries thus removing the need for manual crowning in the tarehouse. The following linked report (In the processor's web site titled "Whole Beet Sampling & Trial Analysis Report - June 2011) indicates how this jointly run trial was operated and how the findings will be put into operation during the 2011 / 2012 campaign and in future campaigns
