Some trial work was carried out jointly by the NFU and British Sugar during the 2010/2011 campaign to arrive at a fixed crown tare adjustment which was applied for the 2011/2012 campaign. You are aware from last campaign (2011/2012) that a fixed crown tare value of 6.77% was applied to all deliveries as a result of thr trial work carried out in 2010/2011.
The Joint Group who were reposnsible for the work being carried out during the 2010/2011 campaign recommended that further testing work should be carried out during the 2011/2012 campaign in order to produce a 2 year average sugar % difference and a fixed crown factor. This work has now been completed and the two year average fixed crown tare figure that will be used from the 2012/2013 campaign and onwards will be 6.61%.
The following linked report (In the processor's web site titled "Whole Beet Sampling and Trial Analysis Report 2011- 12 Final Trial results - June 2012 Final Report) indicates how this jointly run trial was operated and how the figure of a fixed crown tare of 6.61% was arrived at. Please note that a copy of the final report is only available to UK Sugar Beet Growers who have access to the UK Sugar Beet Portal and the processor's web site.
