The first grower meeting after the agreement of the new IPA was held in Telford today, 15 August 2006, and welcomed nearly 300 growers. Feelings were running high and many growers raised questions to the Sugar Board Chairman, John Hoyles, to explain the compensation options as a result of the Allscott factory closure.
John Hoyles was accompanied on the top table by William Martin, Sugar Board Vice Chairman, Helen Kirkman, NFU Chief Sugar Adviser, Meurig Raymond, NFU Deputy President and Nigel Roper, Chairman of the meeting and West Midlands representative on the Sugar Board.
Throughout the meeting, which lasted approximately 2 hours, John and the team were able to discuss the compensation options and further details of the IPA and answer the questions from the growers.
Further meetings are to take place in York, Lincoln, Peterborough, Norwich, Ipswich and Newark.
