Compensation payments complete

EU Restructuring compensation should now be paid in full.

The RPA has confirmed that all payments of Restructuring Compensation were made on Wednesday 24 June and Friday 26 June. All growers should have received their funds.

The exchange rate has been confirmed, and the price per tonne is approximately £1.90. You can use this figure to calculate the amount of compensation you should have received. To calculate your payment you simply need to add the tonnage for the three years (2006, 2007 and 2008) and multiply this by 1.90.

Example:

2006 tonnage = 1,000
2007 tonnage = 1,500
2008 tonnage = 2,000
Total tonnage = 4,500

Compensation amount = 4,500 * 1.90 = £8,500

If you have still not received your compensation or you have a query regarding the amount you have been paid then please contact the RPA directly on 0191 226 5308.

NFU Sugar encourages all beet growers to keep records of their payments, and their application documents, in case of future audits. RPA guidance stipulates the following requirement:

"Retaining and maintaining accurate records relating to your claim until 31 December 2013 in accordance with Article 4 of Regulation No. 4045/1989 and Statutory Instrument 1992/314."

Background information

The compensation was awarded to beet growers following the renunciation of 13.5% of the UK's quota in 2008. NFU Sugar secured the maximum level of compensation available from Brussels, for beet growers affected by the loss of quota in early 2008 and had lobbied for the full payments to be brought forward to June this year. Originally only one third was due to be paid in 2009 and the remainder in 2010.
