BBRO updates
Updates from the BBRO Advisory Bulletin.
Crop growth
The crop is generally growing well, but some crops (as well as researchers!) are flagging a little in the heat. Recent rains could have been a distributed a little more equitably!
Bolters
These are appearing in small numbers in quite a few crops. Aim to pull these in mid July to prevent the risk of seed return.
Weed beet
These continue to appear above the crop in increasing numbers. Plan control measures now with a view to starting a little later this month as appropriate. However, DO NOT be tempted to cut too early. Early cutting will reduce the competition for a short while, but the cut weed beet will start to grow more stems so that shading of the crop will soon be worse. It is best to wait until late flowering before starting to cut or wipe.
