Sugar Beet trading gets underway

As part of the new Outgoers scheme, growers are now able to trade beet.

The outgoers scheme for UK growers commenced this week, enabling trading of sugar beet. The scheme allows qualifying growers to buy and sell beet, with sellers receiving compensation.

The British Sugar £7m voluntary scheme is aimed at primarily compensating low-yielding growers and those who are a long way from factories, in order to re-allocate contract to better-performing growers achieving higher yields.

Qualifying growers will have received letters containing the necessary details in the post this week.

An 'Outgoers Directory' can be found on the British Sugar website that will enable qualifying growers (Buyers and Sellers) to Register themselves as an interested Buyer or Seller and allow other growers to contact them to discuss trades.
